PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI EXPECTED TO RETURN TO NIGERIA
The president of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, who embarked on a medical leave on the
19th of January, 2017, is expected to return to Nigeria today the 10th
of March, 2017.
Buhari has been away from the
country for about 50 days now during which he has been receiving treatment for
an undisclosed ailment in a London hospital.
The president’s vacation was supposed
to last only 10 days and he should have returned to the country on the 6th
of February, 2017. However, via a letter to the National Assembly, Buhari had
requested that his leave be extended in order for him to run certain tests as
recommended by his doctors.
The uncertainly surrounding the
president’s health coupled with the fact that his leave was extended indefinitely,
stirred rumours that the president had kicked the bucket. The rumours had
spread rapidly like cancer through the aid of the social media.
Notwithstanding, the rumours were
dismissed by the presidency which asserted that Buhari was alive and well
especially since he allegedly make several calls to some persons in Nigeria.
The most recent of such calls was
placed to the former governor of Ekiti State, Niyi Adebayo through which Buhari
purportedly expressed his condolence over the demise of the former governor’s
father.
Thus, Buhari is expected to return
to Nigeria today; and if the words of the presidency are anything to go by,
then the president should be expected only a couple of hours from now. Plans are
already being made to receive him.
