OPINION: WHY NIGERIANS HAVE FORGOTTEN BUHARI
As the days
go by, the name Buhari continues to disappear from our consciousness as well as
from headlines. Nigerians don’t seem to care anymore whether or not Buhari returns.
Whether or not he is alive, Nigerians are not even concerned.
It is rather
baffling for a man who had constantly been on the news for one thing or the
other to just fade away like a nightmare’s ghastly presence in the truthful
dawn of day. Sadly, Nigerians have not missed Buhari at all.
Great men
will be remembered for what they did and the impact they made in the world even
long after they are dead. Buhari is not even dead yet and he is already
forgotten. What then happens if he departs from the land of the living? It’ll
be like he never existed.
It’ll
surprise you to know that even those in the presidency don’t miss Buhari. I mean,
they could pretend they do perfunctorily out of mere obligation but the truth
is that they really don’t care. This includes Femi Adesina whose duty requires
that he lie but he really doesn’t believe what he says.
And why
should Buhari not be forgotten? He has no positive accomplishment. He has
really not done anything worth remembering him for. Buhari has no positive
impact in the lives of Nigerians or even the world. In this light, he has not
earned the right to be missed.
As a matter
of fact, Buhari’s absence seems to stir happiness amongst Nigerians for the man
who campaigned under the banner of change made life a living hell for
Nigerians. The wind of recession came with him; he offered no solution apart
from blaming the previous administration.
He hasn’t
been gone for up to two months and things are already getting better. Why
should Nigerians miss him? Why shouldn’t Nigerians pray that he never returns?
Nigerians
don’t care what happens to Buhari. We only care that he should not return
because all he did was bring pain and suffering. Nigerians are happier without
Buhari. The government is better without Buhari.
So far,
Vice president Osinbanjo has been doing a great job. Judging from the way
things are, Buhari is the acting president while Osinbanjo is the president. Those
who insist Buhari is president don’t even believe themselves.
