NIGERIAN MAN BAGS 20- YEAR JAIL TERM IN SOUTH AFRICA
A High Court in Johannesburg, South
Africa, has sentenced a Nigerian man to 20- years imprisonment after he was
found guilty of human trafficking.
The convict, Ogochukwu Eke, 33
years of age, who was found guilty of four charges relating to human
trafficking, had been accused of forcing a 15-year old girl into prostitution.
Ogochukwu’s victim was said to have
escaped in August 2015, and received help from a nearby church in
Rosettenville. After her escape, officials reportedly alerted the police and
Ogochukwu was arrested.
According to Majake Mabesele, the
presiding judge who tried the case, “…what
happened to her (the victim) was cruel, inhuman and degrading and was a
violation of the right to human dignity, which is enshrined in our
constitution.
“The perpetrators of these offences deserve severe punishment in order to
protect and promote a bright future for our young generation”
The judge said Ogochukwu took advantage
of the teenager who was homeless after running away from her home in 2015
following a fight with her mother.
