HAUSAS AND YORUBAS CLASH IN ILE-IFE AS LIVES HAVE BEEN LOST AND PROPERTIES DESTROYED.

Crisis reportedly broke out and is believed to be ongoing at Sabo market in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, between Hausas and Yorubas in the Area.

The Chaos which has left not more than 10 persons dead, others injured and properties destroyed, allegedly started when a bus driver accidentally brushed a Hausa woman with his bus last night at Sabo.

According to reports, it was only the mirror of the bus that made contact with the Hausa woman. However, the Hausa men at Sabo market became furious and hacked the driver with cutlasses.

The dawn of the morning saw that things escalated as the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) boys allegedly retaliated and right about now, about 10 people are feared dead and others injured in the ongoing fight.

Residents of the area who have deserted their homes at Sabo and Lagere in Ile-Ife, Osun State Nigeria confirmed to reporters that they were forced to flee because they heard gunshots and that houses as well as shops were being burnt with their occupants inside.

Police and army personnel are believed to have been discharged to the area. Meanwhile, the Osun State government has declared a two day curfew in Ile- Ife which will start from 6pm today and end by 7am on Friday, 10th March, 2017.

Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, the Director of Bureau of Communication, Media and Strategy of Governor Rauf Agregbesola explained the rationale behind the curfew via a statement thus:

“The curfew has been compelled by the breach of the peace in the area which led to avoidable destruction of lives and properties.”
When will all these ethno-religious wahala end in Nigeria?
