BARCELONA COMPLETE MIRACULOUS COMEBACK TO SECURE QUARTER FINAL SPOT
Wednesday the 8th of
March 2017 will forever be remembered in the history of football as Barcelona,
arguably the best team in the world, made a miraculous comeback against Paris
Saint Germain at Camp Nou.
The Catalans who had lost 4-0 in
the first leg to the French club and subsequently ruled out by many as having
crashed out of the competition prior to the second leg game, defied all odds to
overcome PSG in a 6-1 victory to put the aggregate scoreline at 6-5.
Messi, Neymar and Suarez, the most
fearsome attacking combination in contemporary football, registered their names
on the score sheet for Barcelona in the 6-1 routing of PSG with Neymar scoring
a brace in the second half of the game.
Barcelona through a rather sly
header from Suarez, took the lead early in the game after just 3 minutes of
play. With just 5 minutes left in the first half after 40 minutes of play, it
was Iniesta who created confusion in front of the opposition goal forcing
Kurzawa to tap the ball into his own net.
The Second half was even more scintillating
than the first with Neymar scoring a wonderful free kick. Penalty kicks from
Neymar and Messi saw Barcelona’s goals pile up to 5. Just seconds to the close
of the game, Sergi Roberto sealed the victory for the Catalans.
Although, Edison Cavani threatened
Barcelona’s travail in the 61st minute with a superb strike to make
it 3-1; notwithstanding, the Catalans remained unyielding even as they played
with certain doggedness which eventually paid off.
Barcelona is now through to the
quarterfinal of the competition against the projection of a large section of
footballing fans.
