12 THINGS THAT COULD DISQUALIFY YOU AT A JOB INTERVIEW
If you want that job, please don’t
do these things.
1.
Bad
comments about your past or current job.
Prospective
employers will always like to know about your current or past jobs and will ask
you questions along that line. Just don’t complain, insult, or bad-mouth your
past employer. It speaks bad of you.
2.
Stuttering,
saying “uhmmm…,” “like”, “you know”
These could
disqualify you. Some of us are already used to these things and we cannot make
simple conversation without them while others use them because they cannot
explain their position effectively. Try as much as possible to avoid these. If you
don’t know what to say, it is better to take a pause.
3.
Appearing
flustered.
Don’t know
the meaning of fluster? Look it up in your dictionary.
Wearing a
flustering expression will certainly disqualify you. It tells your prospective
employers that you cannot think fast or handle pressure. If you are the type to
easily get flustered, just take a deep breath and relax.
4.
Inappropriate
dressing.
Truly, many
people don’t know when to wear what. A job interview requires that you look
responsible even if you ordinarily aren’t. It doesn’t matter what you are
applying for. Even if it is not a professional job, you have to look
responsible, neat and decent. Better don’t wear short or tight things.

5.
Flaunting your
tattoo
Even though
I feel tattoos are bad, many young people feel they are fashionable. You don’t
have to hold my position but I tell you, make sure your tattoo is covered by a
sleeve or concealed from your interviewers else, you can kiss that job goodbye.
6.
Busy mouths
Some people
cannot just keep their mouths from chewing. Oh! Their mouths must be busy. If you
are the type to always chew gum or nibble on a snack, don’t do it while you’re
at an interview. Even if it you’re still waiting, don’t try it because someone
might be watching.
7.
Failure to
hold your resume
If you don’t
have your resume with you, why did you even bother going for the interview?
Ensure to take not only your resume but at least three copies if it as well as
other relevant documents.
8.
Inappropriate
responses to questions
Many people
do not know how to answer questions especially in this generation of ours. Anyway,
you must anticipate questions and plan ahead before going for an interview. Go straight
to the point and give appropriate examples if you have any. Avoid long and
boring stories else I assure you that you are done!
9.
Bringing up
the issue of salary
Let your
prospective employers bring up the issue. Salary is important but don’t make it
obvious that that’s all you care about.
10. Timid appearance and rigid body language
Ahhhhhhhh! It
speaks a lot about your lack of confidence. That you cannot even maintain eye
contact with your interviewers is a serious crime. If you are the timid type or
you have a rigid body language whether natural or artificial, just try and
pretend that day else, I guarantee you will not get that call afterwards.
11. “I don’t have any question”
In case you
are asked if you have any question, and you will, please ask a question. Even if
you truly understand everything, just ask something you already know. It speaks
well of you. It shows that you are following.
12. Late arrival
You arrive
late for an interview? Please don’t even go in. True you may have a genuine reason
but just let that interview pass. Late arrival is the ultimate crime. I bet you
that your prospective employers might allow you in but you have been
disqualified before the interview starts so don’t bother wasting your time.
