Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo, who
has been Nigeria’s acting president for close to two weeks now since Muhammadu
Buhari took a medical leave, has said that the Presidency will not stop the February
6th nationwide protest.
Osinbanjo who spoke through his
senior special assistant- media and publicity, Laolu Akande, who was a guest on
Channels TV, said that Nigerians have the right to protest as it is their
fundamental human rights.
He was quoted to have said:
“Presidency is not going to stop people from expressing their fundamental
human rights. People have the right to protest. Whoever they want to support or
oppose is their right. Government is not in the business of countering any protest.”
Nigerians have since commended the
acting president for respecting or rather intending to respect the rights of
citizens while they criticized Buhari for running a tyrannical government that
will shoot at innocent citizens on a peaceful protest.
