OPINION: STOP THE APATHY

How can you be suffering and
smiling? Well, you shouldn’t except you are from this West African region
called Nigeria. But I wish that was all the abnormalities that have plagued my countrymen
and countrywomen.
I am not a politician. In fact,
this post is not politically sponsored or engineered. If anything, it is
because I am human and I care. Over the ponderous period of twelve (12) months,
the country has faced- and is still- facing unarguably the worst economic
crisis in recent times.
Then again, I wish that was the
only plague that has invaded our already precarious status. And if I may ask
and I do ask, who is/ are responsible for such deteriorating fortunes of the
country? I think it would be unbelievably naïve not to know the culprits.
But this is not about the culprits;
this is about those who are suffering and smiling- and worst of all, increasing
their tweets and comments and likes and posts and tags on Facebook where there
is almost no bearing to the acute hunger and hardship that is viciously biting
hard on the street.
Tuface Idibia, even with his
influential status rose above the suffering and smiling mentality, to confront
and jostle the deaden consciousness of the culprits. What does he get? A big TAG:
ILLITERATE!
The truth is that the culprits have
egregiously failed us, and themselves. Just three (3) days ago, I purchased
fuel at N150 per liter. What happened to the regulation? Is it merely on paper?
Do they really know what it portends to ordinary Nigerian on the streets?
So this is really about the idlers
who think they are not idlers by being regular on social media platforms; those
who are vigorously driven by sentimental tendencies, who would rather that the
country crumbles than their unpatriotic allegiances.
Indeed, those who will not do anything
yet stand in the way of those who would- the Pharisees and Sadducees mentality.
This is also for those who are all TALK and no WORK.
We don’t need Professors, Lawyers,
Doctors, Public Administrators, Engineers, Architects, Accountants, Celebrities,
Politicians, Artisans, and Artists.
As a matter of urgency, we need
just one person who will stand for what is right. What is right is to awaken
the sleeping government because they are DEAD asleep.
