UNIVERSITY OF MAIDUGURI’S VC REFUSES TO SHUT DOWN INSTITUTION AFTER ATTACK BY BOKO HARAM

Professor Ibrahim A. Njodi, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Borno state Nigeria, has refused to halt academic activities in spite of threat by Boko Haram.

The Islamic sect that has so wreaked havoc on the country instilling fear in the people attacked the University on Monday 16th January, 2017.

The attack which involved two bomb explosions by two suicide bombers at two different Mosques in the University left 5 people dead including a professor while about 15 others were seriously injured.

While declining to shut down the University, the VC appealed to the military to increase security in and around the school and its environs to prevent a repeat of such an occurrence.

The VC is reported to have said:

“I can convince the senate, the management and university community to close down the school to save lives. But if we do that, we are not helping…

“If we run away, that means there is nobody they (the military) should be fighting for. We should stay and resolve it, after all the war is about us, Western education. If we stay, the terrorists will be frustrated because that is their aim”

Do you agree with the VC?
