Serena Williams won the 2017
Australian Open on Saturday, January 28, 2017 after defeating her sister, Venus
Williams, at the final in Melbourne.
Serena’s victory in Melbourne
marked her 7th Australian Open trophy. She beat her sister Venus 6-4
6-4 after an explosive and thrilling encounter with rapid exchange of breaks.
Serena Williams who is now 35 has
found her way to the top spot on the WTA rankings above Angelique Kerber who was
formerly occupying the top position.
Serena has had a very successful
career in Tennis. She is considered to be one of the greatest Tennis stars of
our time. Her victory in Melbourne has made her the holder of a new record
after she broke Steffi Graf’s Open record by winning a 23rd Grand
Slam singles title.
Her sister Venus has equally had a
successful career having won quite a number of Trophies herself.
