GLOBAL UNEMPLOYMENT TO HIT 200 MILLION IN 2017- ILO. IT DOESN'T HAVE TO AFFECT YOU.
According to the International
Labour Organization (ILO), a United Nations agency dealing with labour issues
particularly international labour standards, social protection, and work opportunities for all; global
unemployment rate will hit 200 million in 2017.
The Organization which brings
together governments, employers and worker representatives from 187 countries
made this inference after conducting what it believes to be diligent research.
Owing to the fact that workforce is
growing at a faster pace than jobs are being created, the Organization
anticipates that global unemployment will rise by 3.4 million this year, and by
2.7 million in 2018.
Guy Ryder, the ILO director general
had a few words to say about the issue:
“This paints a worrisome picture for the global economy and its ability
to generate enough jobs, let alone quality jobs.”
While this is indeed worrisome, you
do not have to belong to those 200 million people, a number greater than the
entire population of Nigeria.
It is not intended to scare you
especially if you’re looking forward to joining the labour force this year or
next. You will undoubtedly be joining the millions of job seekers who are
currently on standby.
There is a way out!
You do not have to be unemployed. There
are so many things a person could do to earn money these days. As a matter of
fact, it is rather foolish to wait for a paid job. Besides, how much do
employers pay these days? Not much.
Thus, I challenge you to search
within yourself and find something you could transform into a career. Everyone has a gift, a talent or something
they are really good at. Even if you aren’t that good, there’s always room for
you to develop that part of you.
I would like you to know that in
this struggle, all you need is determination, diligence and resilience. Your efforts
may look inauspicious at first and you may even fail at some point but you must
have an I-will-not-give-up spirit.
