FORMER GAMBIAN PRESIDENT YAHYA JAMMEH TO GO INTO EXILE TODAY
The former president of Gambia,
Yahya Jammeh, who recalcitrantly held on to the presidential seat after he lost
to Adama Barrow in the December 1st 2016 Gambian presidential
election is expected to go into exile today Saturday 21st January,
2016.
Surrounded by ECOWAS troops that eagerly
awaited a mandate to forcefully oust him, Jammeh reluctantly surrendered
yesterday 20th January, 2016, by virtue of a superfluous announcement
that he was stepping down.
This occurred after a peace move by
Conde the president of Guinea and Mauritania’s president, Ould Abdel Aziz, who
travelled to Banjul to persuade the long ruling Jammeh to leave peacefully
before ECOWAS forces pounced on him.
After some talks, Yahya Jammeh will
now leave Banjul on Saturday 21st January, 2017 with Conde to begin
a new life of exile in Guinea.
