Nigerian author, writer and Novelist, Florence Onyebuchi Emecheta, has died at the age of 72. The award winning author departed from this cold world on Wednesday, January 25th, 2017 in London, England where she lived most of her life.

Late Emecheta is a best-selling author of over 20 books including, “The Joys of Motherhood”, “Second Class Citizen”, “The Bride Price”, and many more.

Denja Abdullahi, the president of Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), confessed, and I quite agree, that her death was a big loss to the Nigerian literary world.

Undoubtedly, she would be forever remembered for championing the agenda of the girl child through her works.

Emecheta touched my life through her novels. My first contact with her was back in secondary school when I read “The Joys of Motherhood.” The plot as well her use of diction had fascinated and inspired me amongst other things.

Today, I am a writer. If someone had told me that I would be reporting her death, I would have hurt them. But then, 72 is not a bad number at all especially since she has inspired many young people like myself.

I just hope she is in a place better than this wicked world.
