45 000 PEOPLE FLEE GAMBIA AS 7000 SOLDIERS PREPARE TO OUST JAMMEH



About 45 000 Gambian citizens have reportedly fled the country to neighbouring countries Senegal and Guinea-Bissau amongst others as foreign troops under “Operation Rescue Democracy” initiative close in on Yahya Jammeh.

Jammeh the embattled Gambian president had been given an ultimatum to vacate his seat. The ultimatum which was 12 noon on Friday, January 20, 2017, has since elapsed.

While approximately 45 000 Gambians have fled to Senegal and another 800 to Guinea-Bissau, foreigners have also found escape routes out of the country as 7000 soldiers are rather eagerly on standby to get Jammeh out for Adama Barrow to step in.
